Tribute to Pvt Boyd R DERREBERRY - G/513th PIR
(October 10, 1921 - January 06, 1945)
Son of David Alexander DERREBERRY and Lenna Glesta NELSON, Boyd R DERREBERRY was born on October 10, 1921 Cherokee County, North Carolina. Daniel was a carpenter and lived in Knox County, Tennessee when he was enlisted on September 23, 1943 at Fort Oglethorp, Georgia. He received ASN 34885628.
Private DERREBERRY joined the new Airborne Corps and was assigned to the G Company of the 513th PIR of the new 17th Airborne Division after having completed successfully the Airborne school.
Boyd DERREBERRY was killed in action on January 06, 1945 while his battalion was located in the vicinity of the Bois des Valets.
He was temporarily buried in the US military cemetery of Ham, Great-Dutchy of Luxembourg. His body returned stateside on August 1949 and he is buried now in Knoxville National Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee.
